CallRail describes itself around call tracking, marketing attribution, conversation capture and lead optimization. Its features page lists dynamic number insertion, call recording, text messaging tools, form tracking and connections to tools such as HubSpot, Google Analytics, Salesforce, Meta and Google Ads. Its features page does not single out insurance.
VereTel does less, on purpose. It gives you tracking numbers you do not have to buy yourself, forwards each call to the line you already answer, and shows every call in a desk. If you want a tool that covers the whole marketing-to-CRM chain today, CallRail is closer to that. If you want to know which campaign your calls came from and nothing more, VereTel is aimed at that.
Side-by-side
| What we compared | CallRail | VereTel |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing model | Monthly plans with included local numbers, minutes and text messages; usage above that is charged per unit | A free account, then flat monthly plans: Solo $19.99 (1 number, 250 minutes), Starter $79 (3 numbers, 1,000 minutes), Growth $199 (10 numbers, 3,000 minutes), Scale $399 (25 numbers, 7,500 minutes) |
| Published starting price | Lead Tracking $50 per month. Lead Tracking Complete $95, Lead Conversion $150, Lead Conversion Complete $195. Up to 10% off with a yearly plan. | $19.99 per month (Solo). Annual prepay is two months free, on request. |
| What plans include | 5 local numbers, 250 local minutes and 25 text messages on every plan; the Complete plans add 1,000 form submissions | Solo: 1 number (local) and 250 minutes. Starter: 3 numbers (local) and 1,000 minutes |
| Usage above the plan | Extra local number $3; local minute $0.05; toll-free number $5; toll-free minute $0.08; text message $0.03 | $0.06 per extra minute; $5 per extra number on Starter and up |
| Number type | Local and toll-free rates are both published | Local tracking numbers, in the area code you choose. Toll-free on Starter and up: on request, talk to us first. |
| Call recording | Listed as a feature | Not yet (coming) |
| Transcription | Listed; transcription minutes and analysis minutes are priced on the pricing page | Not yet (coming) |
| Text messaging | Listed as a feature, with per-message pricing | Not available |
| Integrations | HubSpot, Google Analytics, Salesforce, Meta and Google Ads are named on the features page | None today: no CRM integrations, API, webhooks or Zapier |
| Number insertion (DNI) | Added to a website with a JavaScript snippet | One script tag. A number is assigned per site and per page, not per visitor. Falls back to your published number if anything fails. |
| Set-up model | Not covered on the pages we read | Self-serve: you create an account yourself; once you choose local numbers you pick the line each forwards to and label each source, and we help if you ask. VereTel buys the numbers on its own carrier account. Number-level forwarding at the carrier to your existing line. You sign in to a desk with a call list. |
| Trial, setup fee and term | 14-day free trial, no credit card required. No setup fee or contract term is stated on the pricing page. | A free account (sample calls and a website test tag, no VereTel phone number), not a time-limited trial. No setup fee. Month to month. Cancel online at any time; the cancellation takes effect at the end of the month you have paid for. Annual prepay is two months free, on request. |
On price alone the comparison depends on your usage. VereTel’s entry plan, Solo, is cheaper per month than CallRail’s entry plan, with one number to CallRail’s five and the same 250 minutes. VereTel’s Starter plan has 3 numbers and 1,000 minutes. Because VereTel’s numbers are local, the fair comparison for usage above a plan is CallRail’s local rates above. Work out your own numbers with the ROI calculator.
When CallRail is the better choice
Choose CallRail if any of these describe you:
- You need call recording or transcription now. VereTel does not offer either yet.
- You want text messaging tied to your tracked numbers. VereTel has no SMS.
- Your call data has to flow into a CRM or an ad platform automatically. CallRail names several such connections; VereTel has none today.
- You track form submissions as well as calls and want both in one place.
- You want a time-limited free trial. CallRail lists a 14-day free trial; VereTel has a free account instead, with sample calls and a website test tag but no VereTel phone number.
When VereTel fits
VereTel is a reasonable fit when:
- Your main question is which ad, mailer or page produced a call, and you can answer it with a labeled number per source.
- You would rather have VereTel buy the numbers on its own carrier account than manage a phone account yourself.
- You want calls forwarded at the carrier to your existing line, with no change to your phones. See call forwarding.
- A flat monthly plan with a stated overage rate is easier to budget than several usage meters. See pricing.
- You run enrollment-season campaigns and want a simple call list you can filter by date and by answered or missed.
VereTel does not use per-visitor numbers, keyword-level tracking or source and medium reports. It shows each call, its tracking number and that number’s label.
Common questions
Does VereTel record calls the way CallRail does?
No. CallRail lists call recording as a feature. VereTel does not record calls today. Recording is coming, and we do not give a date.
Which is cheaper, VereTel or CallRail?
It depends on usage. CallRail’s published entry plan is $50 per month with 5 local numbers and 250 local minutes. VereTel Solo is $19.99 per month with 1 number (local) and 250 minutes; Starter is $79 per month with 3 numbers and 1,000 minutes. Compare your expected numbers and minutes against both price lists.
Can I move from CallRail to VereTel?
Bringing an existing number to VereTel is not available at launch. Ask us about your plans and we will tell you what is possible.
