Acceptable use policy
Last updated
This policy lists what VereTel tracking numbers, forwarding and the desk may not be used for. It is part of our terms of service. We may update it as the law and our carrier’s rules change.
You may not use VereTel to
- break any law, including advertising, telemarketing, consumer protection, privacy and anti-fraud laws, and any rules for marketing in your industry (for example, insurance marketing rules);
- advertise in a false or misleading way, including misrepresenting who you are, a government program, or what you sell;
- impersonate another person, business, carrier or government body, or display a tracking number as if it belonged to someone else;
- make, forward or receive robocalls, or calls made with autodialers or prerecorded or artificial voices that the law does not allow, or receive calls generated by spoofed caller ID or other traffic you know or should know is unlawful;
- harass, threaten or defraud callers, or collect callers’ information under false pretenses;
- run scams, including call-back schemes in which a number is published to draw calls from people who are being misled;
- generate artificial calls to inflate call counts or minutes, or to defraud an advertiser or lead buyer;
- forward calls to a line you do not control or are not allowed to use, to premium-rate numbers (such as 900 and 976 numbers), to toll-free, 500 or 700 numbers, to emergency numbers or other short service numbers, to another number VereTel holds, or to numbers outside the United States and Canada, or present a tracking number as an emergency line;
- resell or give third parties access to the service without our written agreement;
- probe, scan or test the security of the service, or try to access another customer’s data or account;
- overload, disrupt or interfere with the service, our carrier or other customers;
- create accounts to avoid a limit, a suspension or a refusal, or create an account with an email address that you do not control.
Carrier rules
Our carrier and the telephone network have their own rules for how numbers may be used. If a carrier tells us that a number is being used in breach of its rules, we may suspend that number while we look into it.
What happens if this policy is broken
We may suspend or release a number, and suspend or close an account, if you break this policy. We may do this without notice where we reasonably believe that a number is being used for scams, fraud or harassment. We may report unlawful activity to the authorities. Where we can, we will contact you first.
Reporting misuse
