Deciding which pages get a number
Start from the questions you want answered, then register the pages that answer them:
- “How many calls does our website produce?” Register the whole site with one number.
- “Which campaign’s landing page works best?” Give each landing page its own number.
- “Do our pages for one service bring more calls than our pages for another?” Register each section’s pages with a number of its own.
Numbers are assigned per site and per page, so every visitor to a page sees the same number. How the swap itself works is on the DNI feature page.
Try it free first, with the test tag
A free account includes a test tag for your website. Paste it into your site, then open your account’s test link on your own pages: a banner shows that the tag is installed and working, with a sample number in place of a real one, and your account lists the pages where it has seen your test visits.
Only your own test link switches the tag on. Your real visitors see your pages unchanged, and the tag sends nothing for them. When you buy a number, your account shows the live tag, and you replace the test tag with it. Numbers are not on sale yet. Create a free account and ask to be told when they are.
What your web person does
- Add the one-line VereTel tag from your account to the site’s template, near the top of the page’s head, so it loads on every page.
- Make sure the phone number on each page is written as text or a tap-to-call link, not only inside an image.
- Register any new landing page in your account before it goes live, so it can show its own number.
What you do in your account, and where we help
Once you have numbers, you register your sites and pages and choose the number each one shows, and the live tag shows it on each page. If you would rather have help with any of it, ask us and we give it.
What it costs
The test tag in a free account costs nothing. Number insertion is included in every plan: the numbers it shows count toward your plan’s tracking numbers, and calls to them use your plan’s forwarded minutes. See pricing.
Common questions
Does DNI change my business listings?
No. Your pages are published with your usual number and the swap happens in the browser as a page loads. Your business listings, and anywhere else your number appears, stay as they are.
Can I use DNI without paid ads?
Yes. You can use it just to count calls from your website and from search.
What does the test tag send?
Nothing for a real visitor. For a visit from your own test link, it sends the address of the page (the site and the path), the name of the site the visitor came from, the campaign source tag if the link carried one, and whether the visit came from an ad click, as a yes or no and never the click identifier.
