Call tracking for property and casualty agencies

Auto, home and commercial agencies compete on a map. Calls come from local searches, directory listings, partners and an agency’s own reputation. Tracking shows which of these still earn their cost.

Local, steady and renewal-driven

P&C calls do not surge around a deadline. They follow moves, new cars, new mortgages, policy renewals and rate increases that send people shopping. Volume is steady, and much of it is price comparison: a caller may ask three agencies for quotes in an afternoon. Speed of answer matters more than in most lines, and the desk’s missed-call filter shows how often it is being lost.

Commercial lines are the other half of the mix. A contractor or restaurant owner needing coverage calls less often but at higher value, and typically finds you through a partner, a search or a referral, not a mailer.

The sources worth separating

  • Local paid search. Separate numbers for auto, home and commercial campaigns, since cost and value differ. See Google Ads call tracking.
  • Business listings and directories. Listings that still display a number are often unmonitored. A dedicated number turns the listing into something you can count.
  • Referral partners. Real estate agents, mortgage lenders, car dealers, body shops and property managers. One number per partner shows who sends business and who only says they do.
  • Local advertising. Radio, sponsorships, community mailers and vehicle wraps, one number each.
  • Your website. Separate numbers for the quote request page and the rest of the site if you use number insertion.

Local numbers and local presence

The numbers in VereTel’s plans are local, in an area code you choose, which suits a regional agency that sells on being local: a local number on a partner’s brochure or a directory listing reads as local. If you advertise across a wider area, toll-free numbers on Starter and up are on request: talk to us and we will tell you what is possible. Read toll-free vs local tracking numbers to weigh it.

Your existing local number stays where it is. Tracking numbers forward to it, so the office answers as it always has.

Multi-office agencies and sizing

Agencies with several offices can point each office’s numbers to its own line and label them by location, which makes the desk a single list across offices. See multi-location agencies. A one-office P&C agency usually needs a number each for search, listings, two or three partners and the website, which fits the Starter plan (3 numbers) at the low end and the Growth plan (10) more often.

Common questions

Can I get a local number for my agency?

Numbers are local, in an area code you choose where one is available. Toll-free numbers on Starter and up are on request: talk to us, and we will tell you what is possible. Numbers are not on sale yet. Create a free account and ask to be told when they are.

Which P&C sources are hardest to measure without tracking?

Referral partners, business listings and local sponsorships. They rarely show up in web analytics, and callers often do not remember where they found you. A dedicated number per partner or listing makes them countable.

Does the tracking number replace my agency’s main line?

No. Your main number stays as it is. Tracking numbers forward calls to it or to another line you choose.
