Life insurance has no season, and a long fuse
There is no enrollment window. Calls come after a mortgage, a baby, a health scare or a birthday, and sales arrive on the buyer’s calendar. A prospect may read a quote page, leave, talk to a spouse, and call three weeks later. Judging a source after a few days undervalues it.
Products change the conversation. A term shopper may want a price and a health-class answer in fifteen minutes. A whole life or IUL buyer often wants an hour of explanation and a follow-up. Agencies selling both should expect different call lengths from different sources, and the desk’s duration column is a quick way to see that.
Where life insurance calls come from
- Quote and comparison pages. A visitor who compares term rates and then calls is warm. Give each landing page its number, using number insertion if the site has several.
- Direct mail and print. Mortgage-protection and new-homeowner mailers are staples. One number per drop, as in final expense, but with a longer window before you judge.
- Referrals. Existing clients, accountants, financial planners and mortgage brokers. A number given to a partner answers “is this relationship worth the lunches?”
- Paid search and social. Search for “term life quotes” and social ads aimed at young families are two different audiences with different costs.
- Seminars and events. A number on a handout or slide that is used nowhere else.
Judging sources fairly
Because the sale lags the call, compare sources on calls and on answered calls first, and on policies only after enough time has passed. VereTel gives you the call side: source, answered or missed, duration. It does not hold lead statuses or policy outcomes, so the closed-sale side stays in your agency management system or spreadsheet. Match the two by caller number and date when you review a quarter.
Missed calls deserve extra attention here. A life insurance caller who reaches voicemail may well call again, but a referral partner who hears “they never pick up” may not send another client. The desk’s missed filter shows which numbers are losing callers. Because life buyers are less rushed than ACA buyers, a same-day callback to a missed call is a realistic habit.

A small set-up that fits life agencies
A typical life agency starts with a number for the website, one per paid channel and one per referral partner group, which fits the Starter plan’s 3 numbers or the Growth plan’s 10. Add a number for every mailer version. Because life calls run longer than ACA calls, watch your minutes: the Starter plan includes 1,000 and Growth 3,000. See measuring cost per call for the arithmetic. Numbers are not on sale yet. Create a free account and ask to be told when they are.
Common questions
How long should I wait before judging a life insurance lead source?
Longer than for health lines. Life buyers often call weeks after first seeing an ad. Compare sources on calls and answered calls first, then on policies once a full sales cycle has passed for your product.
Can VereTel track a call back to a specific web page?
Yes, at the page level. Number insertion assigns a tracking number to a site or page, so calls from your term quote page can show a different number from calls from your whole life page. It works per page, not per visitor.
Does VereTel track whether a call became a policy?
No. The desk logs the call and its source. Policy outcomes stay in your own systems.
